You know I can’t really pinpoint when it happened. But I know that in recent years I have always felt like my world was just spinning and spinning. It was a never-ending cycle of waking up to kiddos that needed me. Then rushing to get ready for the day and out the door “almost” on time. Battling traffic both ways to work and rushing to make it to the daycare in time. Then homework, dinner, baths, storytime, bed, dishes, prepping for the next day… Then John and I would collapse on the couch too exhausted to have a coherent conversation. And then it would start all over the next day. The weeks were just as bad as errands, sports games, and family gatherings.
Last year, I decided that I wanted to make some changes. Shift the gears from being consistently reactive to everything in my life and to be proactive. To be intentional with my time. I could feel the stress making me into an irritable person. I know the time of sharing a home with our boys is fleeting. I want to be a source of calm and encouragement, not someone consistently screaming “Just get your shoes on, NOW!!!”
Since I don’t have the time or energy to read, Audible is my go-to app. I listen in the car, on walks, doing dishes, folding laundry, you get the gist… Below are the books that helped me find my balance. I now feel like (most days) I am standing on two feet and not spinning.
Your first book on Audible is free. You can then pay per book or do the monthly subscription. I subscribe monthly for around $15. That gives me one credit a month that equals one book. Most books are $20+ and for as often as I listen it works out perfectly!
Below are the books that have had the most impact on my life this past year. I hope you enjoy these books and find encouragement to live your best life.
I'm always looking for encouraging reads. If you have any recommendations, please comment below or email me at beth@bastudiodesign. Thanks!
